What's going on?: Amy is a mom of a 5-year-old severely epileptic son. He was diagnosed very early in his life and has had several brain surgeries since then to try to alleviate the suffering that he goes through. Amy and her husband put much of their faith in God that this is where they’re meant to be, but she often feels alone because not many people understand what she, Mikel (her husband), and Caiden (her son) go through on a daily basis. Just the other day, I called her to talk to her about my wedding and she started crying because she doesn’t want to let me down, but needs to make sure that Caiden’s needs are our first, which I understand entirely, but that doesn’t take away from her pain.
What do you love most about this girl?: She is one of the most hopeful people that I have ever known. Her optimism is the face of fear and pain is incredible. She cares so deeply for others and loves her son so fiercely that it’s almost tangible. She is as dedicated as they come - to her family, her husband, her friends, her health and her faith. She has been dealt a rough hand but she keeps the light shining bright through it all.
Anything else you want to tell us? She deserves all the best in this world and I’m hoping that these letters will make her feel like she’s not alone in her struggles, though it might not be something that people can automatically relate to. I’m hoping that these letters will bring her some peace and love and happiness from other women who love and love God as she does.
